Law and Sustainability
Wars, pandemics, climate change, financial crises produce humanitarian emergencies that make the jurists' commitment to design a sustainable world no longer postponed. Entered in the legal language since the second half of the 1980s, the principle of sustainability now qualifies the ambitious project of the United Nations 2030 agenda, transforming the original utopian charge into a pressing challenge for the definition of a new paradigm through which re-orientate political action and scientific reflection. The Ph.D. course intends to meet this challenge.
Regulation, management & public organisations law
The Doctorate of National Interest in 'Regulation, Management and Law of Public Sector Organisations' aims to train professional figures with in-depth knowledge of the organisations and bodies that look after public interests, from an economic-managerial, legal and political perspective. The specificity of the doctoral course lies in the integration of the traditional knowledge and skills of research in public administration with the newer, but equally indispensable, ones related to the affirmation of the principles of solidarity and subsidiarity.

Philosophy
The aim of the doctoral programme is the international training of scholars in philosophical sciences in order to carry out autonomous study, research and teaching activities in the field of the history of philosophy, moral philosophy and philosophy and history of science, within the common European framework of education and research. Teaching and training activities are carried out both in Lecce and in Paris and Cologne. Doctoral students also attend interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and trans-disciplinary activities organised by the Doctoral School. From 2021 the Doctoral Programme in "PHILOSOPHY. Forms and history of philosophical knowledge' has opened up to the themes of the environment and sustainability, inaugurating a line of research in line with the themes identified by the PNRR.
Lingue, Letterature, Culture e loro applicazioni
The doctoral program offers a course of advanced academic training based on interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary cross-fertilisation in “Area 10”. It focuses on the structure and evolution of classical and modern, Western and Eastern languages and literatures, in their communicative value, in their different contexts of use and in their semantic-structural and pragmatic hybridities.
Dipartimento di Scienze Umane e Sociali
Human and Social Science

Engineering of Complex Systems
The Doctoral Degree in Engineering of Complex Systems at the Department of Engineering for Innovation at the University of Salento, aims to prepare talented students for scientific and technological research in a multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspective. The Ph.D. course aims to develop the necessary capabilities for a deep interaction among diverse technical backgrounds, ranging from chemical engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, energy engineering, management engineering, and so on. The Doctoral Program offers a stimulating and modern Ph.D. program for a comprehensive education in the different fields of Industrial and Information Engineering, both about foundational and applied courses. The Doctoral Program extends and complements the one offered by the Ph.D. School of the University of Salento, which is focused on improving foreign language skills, intellectual property, and fund raising, thanks to specific seminars and workshops. Ph.D. students can also access the transversal training offered by the University of Salento about soft skills, like public speaking, problem-solving, leadership, and time management. Ph.D. students attending the course of Engineering of Complex Systems can also access more than 30 research labs available at the Department of Engineering for Innovation, a rich virtual and physical library, and a wide national and international network of enterprises, universities, and research centers. Therefore, our Ph.D. students are challenged in different technical frameworks (basic research, design, and production) and several application domains. Graduated students in Engineering of Complex Systems have the chance to find working positions both in University and public and private research centers. The acquired skills in fundraising can also stimulate the start-up of university spin-offs. The experience gained in the three years course facing interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary topics, related to the design, analysis, development simulation, and management of complex systems allows them to be appreciated at national and international levels. For 4 Ph.D. cycles, the course of Engineering of Complex Systems has graduated about 40 students: 50% of them have been employed in SMEs, most of them in spin-offs and start-up, founded by themselves. The others have been employed in research centers both in Italy and abroad. In 2021 six of our graduated students have been employed as junior researchers and one as a senior researcher at the University of Salento.
